Ed Sheeran is a world-famous musician who doesn’t only speak in public but sings for millions regularly. Teach your students about his experience as a person who stutters.

 

This lesson plan is designed for SLPs and teachers and to be used with middle to high school age students who stutter in order to 1) learn about stuttering 2) reduce negative attitudes toward stuttering, and 3) help them educate others.

The lesson plan can also easily be used in a general education classroom for curriculum on listening comprehension, making connections (text-to-text; text-to-self; text-to-world), and critical thinking.

 

This no-prep lesson is centered around a 3.5 minute YouTube video (link included in download). The video briefly explains Ed’s journey with stuttering and his thoughts on related topics. Worksheets include listening comprehension on the video, review of three quotes with guided questions to make critical thinking connections, and a 2-page worksheet on building self-confidence so you can “Be yourself.”

 

The detailed lesson plan includes suggested teacher scripts, discussion questions, three worksheet activities, guided and independent practice, and four potential homework assignments (which can be adapted to future lesson plans).
